Casting is a process of pouring molten metal into a mold to form a part. After removing from the mold, the part may be machined and heat treated for use. The part is referred to as a casting. The metal is usually more porous than other types of metals. A forging is a part made by hammering steel into a final shape. Some forgings are shaped to a special hammer form. Forgings are generally considered stronger than castings, but due to their cost, only valves of 2" and smaller are mostly made of forgings.
